Encourage pushback rather than force people to obey

When I was younger I was fired from a bricklaying job for buying a drill mixer at lunch instead of mixing mud by hand.

Inefficiency irks me. But looking back, I realized there were two kinds of bosses:

1. Those that want you to do what you're told.

2. Those that want you to do what's best for the business, even it it means breaking some rules.

And this played out time and time again.

In different jobs.

Across different industries.

At very different seniority levels.

And what I learned was:

Businesses that embrace a little insubordination...

and a little rebellious nature within their teams...

Innovate exponentially faster than those that don't.

If you want to capitalize on all the talents of your team.

And unleash ALL the potential of your business...

One thing you can do TODAY is encourage pushback.

Unless you have EVERY answer for EVERYTHING...

You don't necessarily want everyone to do what you tell them.

Businesses that do this well:
- Race forward faster
- Bust through walls easier
- And capitalize on the big opportunities better.
