RR#093 - Feeling discouraged

This week, I want to open up about something.

Remote entrepreneurship has been an incredible experience for me.

I’ve driven nearly $2 million in sales while raising a family with my wife on a Mexican beach. And I’ve had the opportunity to express myself and my creativity in ways I never could have while working for someone else.

I wouldn’t change it for anything.

But I'll be really transparent about something: Remote entrepreneurship is volatile.

There are days when I feel like I’m on top of the world and nothing can go wrong.

My team is crushing it, sales are ahead of plan, content marketing reach is through the roof, my schedule is wide open, and all is right with the world.

And then there are days that are just really damn tough.

Maybe I’m frustrated things aren’t moving as quickly as I’d like, we have an unexpected client issue, tech in our funnel is misfiring, I’m back-to-back on Zoom calls, or something else entirely trips me up.

Hell, I’ve experienced both of these extremes on the same day. If you’re in the early stages of building online, you know what I’m talking about.

Some days you feel like a heavyweight boxing champ. Other days you feel like the punching bag.

We’ve all been there. And I wouldn’t trust any entrepreneur who says they haven’t.

But when these slumps, setbacks, or moments of discouragement hit, how do you handle them? Especially as a remote entrepreneur, which can feel lonely at times.

This is the exact question a client recently asked in our client community:

“I often get discouraged or in a bit of a funk when engagements don’t land my way or my client velocity isn’t there. These funks tend to be all-encompassing, and I can’t afford to have too many of them as a husband, dad, and provider. Any words of wisdom or advice are appreciated.”

First of all, it takes courage to ask this question.

Second, it’s a critical question to ask because how you handle these inevitable moments has the power to make or break you and your business in the long run.

And if you learn to handle them well, you can actually use them to your advantage.

So, I took some time to record a video highlighting a few very tactical things I do when I sense a feeling of being off track creep up.

My video editor and content director both said it was my best video so far. I’ll let you be the judge of that. But if it is, it’s because it’s a subject I feel strongly about helping people navigate.

Take a few minutes to watch and arm yourself with some tools to manage the ‘valleys’ and use them as a launchpad to hit your ‘peaks.’
