TT#015 - 3 tech tools I could not live without

Ever try to open a bottle of wine with a butterknife?

Don’t get me wrong, it wouldn’t stop me from my glass of wine. But the right tool makes things a lot easier.

Most of us know we could market, sell, and deliver our services more effectively and efficiently if we had the right tech tools.

The problem is, there are so damn many to pick from.

I've invested tens of thousands of dollars testing different tools and programs over the past few years.

Some were home runs. Some were complete whiffs.

To save you some pain, here are 3 of my favorites - and why.

Descript

Descript is a video editing platform with several features that make my content generation easier, faster, and better.

For starters, it lets you edit video by editing text.

So, you record video - with Descript or whatever program you choose - and let Descript transcribe it.

Then, as you edit the transcript just like you would any other text document, you are also editing the video.

Copy, cut, and paste the text… and you've also copied, cut, and pasted the video.

You can actually take this one step further by recording yourself reading a script that Descript provides for at least 30 minutes (I recommend longer) and literally changing the words you've said on an audio recording by changing the transcript, too.

So, you can type a sentence and listen to you reading it back to you.

Descript also has a cool feature that removes background noise and makes it sound like you recorded your video in a professional studio. If you have a suboptimal recording setup, this can work miracles.

Kajabi

Kajabi is a great tool for online businesses at nearly any stage of growth. I’ve used it as a solopreneur and I’ve had $30+ million/year coaching clients using it, too.

Kajabi bills itself as an "all-in-one platform" because you can use it to:

  • Create and sell courses

  • Design and host websites

  • Build and publish sales funnels

  • Build and organize your marketing list

  • Send email newsletters and sequences

  • Create and host a community

  • And more...

As one of my tech friends told me years ago, when it comes to digital tools in your tech stack, “He with the fewest tools wins.”

When I adopted Kajabi, I eliminated a website platform, an expensive CRM, an overly complex funnel builder, and a frustrating community platform + course hosting program.

I also cut my spending on those tools by 75%.

As we’ve grown, we’ve adopted some solutions that are more robust, like our CRM.

But we wouldn’t have gotten to that point as fast, as affordably, or as efficiently if we hadn’t adopted a simpler tool we could fully leverage.

Notion

Notion is my Swiss Army Knife program that’s also replaced multiple tools.

Here’s what I’ve learned about Notion: It can be whatever you want it to be.

It’s a collaborative document creator.

It’s a project management tool.

It’s a note-taking program.

It’s a database program.

It’s a task list manager.

I use Notion to organize my life and my business.

I’m even writing this in Notion right now.

It’s allowed me to consolidate our project management, task lists, key documents and templates, internal SOPs and processes, and more into one affordable, easy to use program.

In a very short period of time, Notion has essentially become our internal operating system.
