The influence of complexity on strategic planning
Complicated is hard, but predictable.
Complex is hard, and unpredictable.
The world is arguably becoming more complex.
Does that mean long-term strategic planning is dead?
I'm drawing on General McChrystal's book, Team of Teams.
Where he shares the difference between complicated & complex.
And makes the argument that the world is becoming...
- More complex
- More difficult to predict
- More difficult to plan
Startups start up faster.
Disruption disrupts faster.
And if that's the case...
What does that mean for strategic planning?
Is it dead as some entrepreneurs say today?
Or is how we predict and plan just changing?
